1870 Never Looked So Good
« on: September 13, 2018, 03:42:47 PM »
Here is one of the last gem pans I cleaned recently. I originally saw this pan in the book Antique Iron by Kathryn McNerney. I figured it would be one of those pans I would never hold in my hand, but sometimes life sends you a surprise. It was interesting cleaning this circa 1870 piece. The metal and the casting itself are very different than 20th century pans. This pan has some minor pitting on the top. But then again, this pan also sat in a barn for the last 100 years. Check out the handles on this pan. This is one old and unique pan.
I’m sure it won’t mind when I bake some cornmeal gems in it.

I think the mark is on the bottom of the middle donut cup. Up close it looks distinctly different from the other two donut cups. If you notice the side edges of this pan follow the same pattern as the cup design. There does not appear to be any grinding on the sides. It would be obvious.

This is the best closeup I could get of the middle donut. The other 2 donuts are much more smooth when compared to this one.
