iron mountain = griswold?
« on: January 19, 2010, 08:43:25 AM »
Okay I have seen several pans on Ebay claiming to be Griswold, however they have different handles and are supposibly made for Iron Mountain. Any one know anything about them. Are they as good for cooking? Thanks

Hi Janis,
Yes, Griswold made a line called Iron Mountain. You can spot them by the distinct handle style, and they will also have a four digit number cast into the bottom. They are every bit as good to cook in as a marked Griswold, the quality of casting and finish is equal.
It is thought that these were sold at a lower price, to compete with other foundries, without having to lower the price of marked Griswold cookware. Originally, they would have had a paper label.

Janis...I use a Iron Mountain #7 as my main skillet. I love it, and I have some Griswolds #7 also. You can't go wrong with the Iron Mountain line.

I have several in the kitchen as users also. Great pieces. Lightweight, and great cookers. I also have the full set of skillets in my collection. I was attracted by the handles. I just liked them is all. Like Rick said, you can't go wrong.

I cook with a set of Iron Mountain too.  I like the handle shape and it seems to be more comfortable to hold onto.  Here is the label for anyone who has not seen one.

Jerry, What Jeff said!!  It is things like sharing that label that makes this the BEST C.I. site on the net.   Every day something happens here that aids all of us new folks to understand CI a little more, keep it up & THANKS!

Jerry - one word = WOW. Thanks for posting that pic. I love the graphics. I'd like to add an IM into my skillet set, just trying to figure out what size (hole to fill in the tool set)  since I'm not too keen on doubles.

Did Iron Mountain do lids?

The dutch ovens and chicken fryer have lids.

I've never seen a lid for an IM #5.  I have for IM #9 & #10 skillets.  I THINK there's a #7 skillet lid, too, but I've never seen one.

Interesting. Would a Griswold #9 skillet lid fit an IM #9 I wonder? Or more in general - would Griswold trade marked lids fit the IM's of the same size?

Oh yeah Becky - watching that sale, but I already have a nice covered Gris #7 and #3. Those slots are taken, and the #8 is taken by my Gris double #80 :) If I double up on the #8 I would be more intersted in a Wapak Indian Head there.

I'm more curious about the #5 IM in this case  8-) Don't have a #5 in the skillet line up just yet.

The #9 slot, looking for the oldest Griswold that will take a lid. I really like the #9 "stylized Erie" for that one.

As far as I know they are all the same size and are completely interchangeable.  But Griswold did make some lids for their IM pieces so you better be on the prowl for those ones!!

I watch every IM dutch oven and chicken fryer and lid that I find on Ebay...hoping that someone is overlooking it. I use a #8 IM dutch oven...for my main DO. I keep hoping I can run across a lid to fit it, ..cheap on Ebay its wearing a BS&R lid right now. .

I believe it was mentioned in another thread that the only regular skillet lids were the 7 - 10. Or maybe it was 8 - 10. They are interchangable with marked Griswold as Jeff stated. I only have the #9. I saw a #8 regular skillet lid once, and it went through the roof. I skipped it. I already have enough invested in the #14. Right Jeff?  ;D ;D
