Would this be correct, do you think?

Would it be safe to say that a #3 slant Griswold Scotch bowl marked 781 would have about the same manufacture date as a 780 of the same markings?  (BB p. 76)

Thanks!

I think it would be reasonable to say it would may be in the same date range.  I personally would rely more on the style of the markings to put them together (the slant logo).

Just my opinion though.

 • I don't collect waffle irons; they just show up.

The p/n 780 was just for the next size down, the No. 2 Scotch Bowl.  Common types of markings and text should date to about the same production time.  If it's slant logo and just the word "ERIE" without the "PA, USA," then I would guess 1910's or 1920's.

Unless they changed dimensions, features, or casting methods, they didn't usually change a pattern number just because a logo marking changed.  For example, the very common #8 skillet was always a p/n 704 from the late 1800s right through to 1957, even through all the logo and handle changes (except for the period when they were using several consecutive p/ns for the earliest flush HR ERIE skillets.)
