Dating Wagner Ware cast aluminum pieces
« on: December 02, 2016, 06:46:30 AM »
Is there a way to date the Wagner Ware cast aluminum pieces, Were the aluminum pieces made before the Magnalite pieces, I am looking at a Wagner Ware 3248 Round Roaster, It is the hammered finish and the lid has the cast on handle(not knob), The underside of the lid has the zig zag drip drop basters and the patent dates.

Ok..Here are some photos, Both the top and bottom have matching numbers 3248  M, The top has the patent dates and looks like it was cast from the same mold as the earlier cast iron lids were cast from.

I believe the aluminum and not Magnalite plus the zig zag drip drop basters plus the early style handle on the lid(not a round knob)and the patent dates date this piece to between 1930-1940

And yes we just got a new range and I love it! :)

Wagner produced cast aluminum from the very beginning. (as did Griswold). The old catalogs, in many instance, show many more Cast Aluminum pieces than Cast Iron, IMO.  This is where the old catalog reprints really come in handy.  Magnalite is 'newer'.  If you check the pdf section, you will find a few catalogs there, including one that shows Cast Aluminum,Hammercast, and Magnalite, all in one catalog. :)

Hi Cheryl,
Thanks...I forgot to add that I was also considering the Stylized logo when determining the apx age

What kind?

LG dual oven with 5 burner top , We wanted a dual oven and also wanted one that has proofing mode, Black stainless finish which is really more like a real dark grey...very close to the color of unseasoned cast iron.

Before that we had an Maytag and although it was a nice oven we did have to replace 3 oven ignitor glow bars over the course of 8 years.

And here are some pics of the new one
