wagner ware glass lid fit on other brands?
« on: December 08, 2015, 07:34:27 PM »
I would love to have a lit for each of my best #5, #6, and #8 skillets, but cast iron lids are so expensive on ebay! Would the c-5, c-6, and c-8 lids fit on my #5 favorite piqua smiley, my #6 griswold large block flat bottom, and my #8 favorite piqua smiley?

Are these glass lids "oven safe" at higher temperatures? Are they made of Pyrex or similar material?

The lids should be a close enough fit to work and will be safe in the oven.  Corning made the "C" series lids for the Wagner Ware skillets.

I've taken pieces into the local Goodwill and checked to see what glass lid would fit. Usually $1 a piece. I even found a Wagner Ware glass lid.

Ahh, "heatproof"... and made by Corning.  That answers my question perfectly.  I'll shop for some and see if they fit.  Thanks Randy 'n company!

I don't think the glass lids will cover the pour spouts.

No Jim, they don't cover the pour spouts.

With the advent of glass lids, the need to cover pour spouts became non-existent.  :)

Jim, Randy, and Cheryl,
I have been a big fan of the C-series lids for years and I love using them on my skillets and my 1268 D/O with no issues about the pour spouts...by the way I hang the glass lids with the knob to the rear on my heatproof rack BECAUSE they do NOT touch the rack like they do with the knob facing front (less chance of chipping the lid on the rack) try it Randy and see what I mean!
OB ;D

I was wondering the same thing. Depending on what your cooking, the need to cover the pour spouts still exists and always will. They are fine for a DO though so just use that instead of a skillet I guess.

Thanks Brian, I gave that a try and yes, they do stay raised a bit off the rack.  If I used mine instead of just displaying I'd be inclined to switch them around but the C5 lid covers the face plate of the rack and they sit with the inside of the lid more exposed to dust and I ain't the fanciest house cleaner around. ;)

Mark, I guess if the lid covers most of the pour spout they would work okay.  I might have to buy one and test out the theory.
