Large Block/Slant Dutch Oven
« on: October 04, 2015, 07:01:45 AM »
Picked this up the other day, along with a Wagner Ware center logo, another Dutch oven, and a no 4 Lodge 3 notch. Interesting in that the lid is a slant and the base is a block. I know patent dates don't mean much, but the dates on these two pieces are only a month apart and the owner swore it was purchased new by her grandmother. Did Griswold ever mix and match during the switch over, or did the owner just mix the lids in the deep dark past? I've seen a few others listed on ebay this way (slant lid with block base), but it's rare.

Congratulations Frank. That set right there is some of the first pieces of cast iron I ever bought. Its been a long time ago. And what I gave for that set back then, you can buy today cheaper than what I gave back then. If you read that slow I think it makes sense.  :-/ ;D

Blocks, and slants mixed on these DO's are common. My set is all block, except the 13, that I don't have yet, It was only done in slant

Thanks. So I guess Griswold sometimes did it at the factory. That's a new one on me. Makes me happy!
