If you spend any time watching the FOOD network, you'll see a lot of Lodge. I've seen them on Guys Grocery Games, Cutthroat Kitchen, and Beat Bobby Flay just to name a few. Of course, they are all the newer design. No older pieces that I've seen.
I DON'T WATCH FOOD SHOWS AS MY GRANDMOTHER, MY MOTHER, MY WIFE, AND MYSELF CAN COOK BETTER THAT ANY OF THEM. ITS REALLY NOT NECESSARY TO ADD A BUNCH OF SPICES TO COOK.
I PREFER MY MEAT WITHOUT ANY ADDED SPICES, EXCEPT PEPPER AND SALT. JUST MY OPINION AND PERSONAL TASTE. IF I RAISED MY OWN BEEF, I WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM EATING MEAT RAW.

WOW. Thats sayin something Robert. Either you are a good BS'er or a very good cook.  ;D

As a rule, for me, when it comes to meat, salt and pepper is about all I prefer as well. And I have eaten beef raw on occasion, when I know where it came from and its history. Its alright but I wouldn't wanna give up my stove for it.  :)

I can't believe I am hanging out with a bunch of people who would even think of stealing mechandise from resturants. Back in my college days maybe an ashtray or towel from the holiday inn, but not kitchen equipment.

Hello Gary. Now just to be clear, are you saying that you are a higher class of thief than the rest of us?  ;D ;D ;D

when someone has to add 4 or 5 spices to make a dinner, there is something wrong.
or when someone says BAMto make something its just wrong.
as far as cooking goes, complicated doesn't necessarily mean better.
Some restaurants add different things to make even potatoe salad better, DOESN'T HAPPEN.
different tastes do not mean better. i remember going to my grandmothers when i was a kid, loved her home made bread with butter that i helped churn, and her home made elderberry jelly.
i am very lucky, grandmother gave my wife the recipe, and i haven't gone without elderberry jelly for 40 or so years. :D :D

Not sure if I'm a higher class of thief or not, just passed the stage of thinking about stealing stuff long ago. Now if they were serving their breakfast skillet in a #2 griswold, I might revert back to my teenage years

There was this guy at this big fancy dinner party. Everybody was all dressed up in their best clothes and puting on their best faces. This guy sees a beautiful woman who wasn't with anybody. So he walked over and casually hit her up for a talk. They were laughing and having a good time. The evening wore on and he casually asked her if she would sleep with him for a million dollars. And she instantly replied yes. And then he said well how about fifty dollars then? She threw her head back real indignant like and said HUHHHHHHHH, what kind of a woman do you take me for? He said we have already determined that, now we're just haggling on price.  :-/

I sure can't agree with Robert on the spice issue. Some things take very little or none and others need quite a bit. Chocolate and vanilla aren't bad, but then there is buttered pecan and cherry garcia. Ha, kind of ironic but, Robert lives in Buffalo. Can you imagine Buffalo wings without spices?

I'm generally with you, CB.  I like adding spices to foods as part of the cooking.  I even make my own spice blends.  I can't imagine smoked baby back ribs with only a few spices.

But Robert is also correct that some aspiring Emerils get carried away. I recently went to a restaurant and saw on the menu Chicken Kiev with red pepper in the butter. I was thinking, "Is this guy kidding me?" :o

I accidentally brought home the box of artificial sweetener from our beach house.  Forgot pack some for our next trip, and I knew my wife would want tea the morning after we arrived and before I went food shopping.

Was stealing a few packets from rest stops on the way down.  :)

Gary, its not like we're talking towels, ash trays or bath robes, we're talking "CAST IRON" , and after reading what all the people on here are saying, i plan on attending some restaurent "closing" auctions.
has anybody here attended any, and if so, how did you do?

Hello Robert. Yes I have attended a few restaurant closing auctions. I collect other things that might show up at one of these. Anyway, NO, there ain't no cast iron pieces there, so don't waste your time going.  ::)

You'd be surprised at what shows up at these. But I ain't gonna crow too loud.  ;D

i have checked a few restaurents lately and have seen them using cast iron skillets in the kitchens, so why wouldn't it show up in an auction?  just saying.

james wilson, i have been known to ask for a knife while in a beef meat cooler, and slice a piece off of a hanging side of beef.   :) :)

on cooking shows, has anybody else noticed that all the ingriedents are already measured out and in little dishes so the "star" can add them to the receipe. then they have a completed dish to show the audience. who do you suppose does all the prep work, the "star"? I DON'T THINK SO EITHER.
cooking shows are reality shows, and as far as i'm concerned, they are as phony, rigged, and scripted as the rest of the reality shows.

Hello Robert. IMO a lot of restaurant auctions will not list cast iron cookware because they think its not worth listing, or list it as 'various cooking utensils' something along that line. Most folks go to restaurant auctions to get big items like food mxers, food processors, coolers, warming tables, and big items. A lot of folks there are buying for resale and specialize in used restaurant equipment. Buy my point is they usually don't think the cast iron is worth especially mentioning.
