oval Griswold skillet

I realize they are not "rare".    more "like hard to find".   how often do you folks see them on the auction block?  the only large auctions I have attended for the last 4 years were Mike Hobbs.   he may have sold a couple in the earlier auctions before I actually realized you had to pay (cough cough) :o :o bigger money for pieces than I was accustomed to paying.  I know how it works now. ;) ;) ;)   anyhow, I don't remember if I saw him sell oval fish skillets or not.  just curious for some input from you all.

Marge, I got a 15 oval at the third of the Crews collection auctions that Mike had.  Decent pricing on it as the big bucks and rarer pieces had been at the first one.
The good chefs never burn anything--we call it "culinary brown"!!

Every time I see a Griswold oval skillet they want way too much money for it.  So, I'm biding my time  >:(

I don't blame you Jim. I got a couple of these. There are some strange sizes of these also that are not in the books. Like a number 13 1/2, a number 16 1/2, and a number 18. I think the only ones listed in the BB are the number 15, pictured here, and the much smaller number 13. A lid was made for the number 15 and they are pretty pricey. Also kind of unusual is a number five Griswold Oval Roaster Lid that has been factory altered to fit the number 15 Oval Fish Skillet. But I'll tell you one thing, I think they are pretty neat looking, but for cooking, forget it. No matter where you put that on a burner you are going to have a cold spot about the size of New Jersay.  ;D ;D ;D

BUT, they are cool looking.  ;)

Me too, Jim. Interesting info, Perry. Never heard of half sizes before.

All
The oval skillets I know of are as follows:

13 in black iron, Nickel, and Chrome
13 1/2 Chrome (only 1 known)
15 in black iron, Chrome, and Red and Cream
 ( 2 lids made for the 15)
16 1/2 in black iron and maybe Chrome
17 in Chrome (only 2 known)

Does anyone know of  anymore.

hello, Calvin.  you are the person I think about when I hear about oval skillets.  you were giving me some information at the WAGS convention.   at the auction where I bought the 15 black iron,  there was a 13 plated with bad plating.  shoulda coulda bought it.   I don't think it got to $300.  all I could think about was the bad plating.   now, I am kicking myself when I find out that the 13 is not that common.   I got the 15 for a decent price.

Hello Calvin. Thanks for coming on and giving us the sizes of the known oval skillets. But I could have sworn that there was a number eighteen. I wonder if thats a typo?  :-/
