Griswold quadruple classic no. 5 stove made in Erie, Pa
« on: November 19, 2014, 06:36:13 PM »
We have live in our house in Cleveland Ohio  for 60 years, and in our attic we always had this stove. we never used it. It is fitted for natural gas but it has clay coals inside it. It is not a cooking stove more like a parlor stove. There is a plate on the back of the stove that reads GRISWOLD QUADRUPLE CLASSIC NO. 5 MADE IN ERIE PA.
IF ANYONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THIS STOVE OR THE VALUE OF THIS STOVE WE WOULD APPRECIATED ANY INPUT.
WE WILL BE POSTING PICTURES SOON.

Hello Maureen. Based upon your description that stove is listed in a cast iron book. Like a lot of things condition is very important. If you could post some pictures that would be great. And I see this is your first time on WAGS. I am currently living in Ohio so a great big welcome from one Buckeye to another.  :)

Yes, please post picks! Don't see many of these. Made 1900-1920, in good shape could be worth up to two thousand dollars IMO, maybe a tad more.

Hello Maureen. I am thinking that it should have a top piece or finial on the very top. Do you see some holes on the top where the top piece would fit down into? And are you looking to sell it? Thank you.  :)

C. Perry Rapier,
You are correct there is a hole for a finial  but we do not have it. Condition seems fair it is very dusty because no one has touch it in the 60 years it has been in the attic.

It has not been exposed to the outside elements or no one has taken water to it to clean the dust off.

The stove has a lot of clay coals in it. The majority of mica is in tacked. The  natural gas fitting all seem to be there. We will post pictures of the fittings soon. The middle door is off however we do have that piece.

Yes it is for sale. This would be a great weekend to drive to Cleveland and look at it.

I have one of those, as so does John and Joel (WAGS members).  Mine has the top finial, but my foot rest is the plain one, not the fancy one seen in this picture.  Yours should clean up well, but it would be better to have the finial to make it complete.  It is not an easy piece to find in this condition, which looks pretty good.

Yup, finial is missing.  Mine has the plain bumper also Greg.  I would like to see a pic of the gas valve set up Maureen, if you can take a pic of that.

Thank you all for your information on this stove. Your knowledge of Griswold is invaluable.

Ed where was the Auction at?

We are motivated to sell this stove within the next three weeks. We realize that parts are missing and it needs to be cleaned up.

If anyone would like to see it or make an offer we would be happy to make arrangements.
