Best $100 I've spent in awhile
« on: October 23, 2014, 07:16:17 PM »
On occasion I find some cast iron of use on Craigslist in my area, typically users or pieces I can resell.  Hadn't been looking for a few weeks and then got back on and found a couple listings that were a couple weeks old and gave a call half expecting to find that the pieces were long gone.  Shocked that both were still available, I made the connections today and ended up with a Lodge 14" Camp Oven from one guy and a Griswold leg forward lamb, 947/948 from another.

While not as good a story as Chris Stairs' on the Vienna pan, I asked how they came across the lamb, since I didn't want to just run out of the house screaming in delight or risk a daylight robbery charge. The guy's roommate said his buddy was rehabbing a house and during the process found it in the floorboards :o  They had no use for it and so it ended up on Craigslist and I'm still shocked that no one else had picked up on it in the meantime.

The guy with the camp oven said it was too big for him, he did a fair amount of camping but it was more than he and his German Shepherd needed.
The good chefs never burn anything--we call it "culinary brown"!!

Hello Randy. Congratulations. That lamb is a good piece. I have one or two with the leg forward but they don't have the number like yours here. That number is very light. Maybe I should look again. I have never done anything on Craigs list. I've looked at a lot of things but have never bought anything from it.

Nice find Randy. Now I'm trying to imagine the reason for anyone to hide this piece under some floorboards...what's up with that.. lol.
