Wow...they even ground the toys. Fascinating.. I would  love to have watched how they made all those little pieces of iron. Perfect little replicas. Do you think they poured them in separate tiny molds, or a larger mold that you would get a bunch of them from one pour.  :)

Cheryl - I'm a dummy. What's a Friedag and why do you need an orphan paddle? Sue

Never heard of Friedag either, Sue..must be the foundry?...  but it looks like the handle on the bottom paddle is broke off.

Yes, a handle on the one paddle has gone missing...  :(

And Mark is correct, Freidag would be the mfg... or at least I think that is what this one is... Tom Neitzel or others may be able to confirm.   Came as a 2 fer... so at least the top view is pretty... ::)

Hello Cheryl. Congratulations on finding those pieces. And I'm really impressed with how you cleaned that Griswold piece. I very often see pieces with them 'liver spots' on them. But SOMEHOW you managed to get them off of there. Can you share your secret with us?  :(

I know very little about Freidag.  They were a toy maker in the 20s and 30s.  Located in Freeport, IL.  Now if I was a betting man, I wouldn't think they had a foundry since Stover was located in Freeport too.  They could have had a small operation though.

Here's a bigger cousin of Cheryl's iron.  It's called the Freidag People Iron.  This one has pretty much all of the japanning on the base.  I just washed that, but the rest got our high class friend, Evaporust.

Be sure to click once on the picture to see it up close.

There is a verion the small waffle iron like Cheryl's about the same size as the people iron.  Tough to find.  I don't have one.

I was told long ago the pronunciation of Freidag is Friday. If that's true (Tom, Joel, anybody??) good, if not true then my wife typed this reply.

Harry or Pat depending

You get to decide, I think there is a bit of truth and a bit of false.

Freitag means the day Friday in German.

I would pronounce this maker as Frydog.

Of course, that's just the world according to Tom.
