Score or no score?
« on: March 10, 2014, 03:12:04 PM »
Picked up what I think is a non-marked Wagner square skillet for $12, and a Sidney -O- chicken fryer for $25.
How did I do?
Can you tell me if the lid is correct to the fryer from the sorry pics?

The marks on the square skillet. Also, if anyone has tips on better pics, let me know.

First,  your chicken fryer came with a glass lid.  Second,  that is a dutch oven lid.   Third,  that is a Wagner square skillet,  made post 1960

For $37 total, I'd say no, you did not get burned.

Each piece would have cost about $12.50, so if all pieces are good condition you did just fine!

I was suprised that the fryer actually had a lid at all.
Most I see are $30 with no lid, and usually warped.
The square skillets are usually high in this area, too, and warped.

How common is the correct glass lid?
Never seen anything at a shop with a glass lid, as it is either no lid or a lid that don't fit.
This lid actually fits.

Have you checked ebay?...I've seen them on there. Is this going to be a personal user or something to turn around? If a user, any lid  that fits will do the same thing.  ;)

If you want a glass lid.  Find one at goodwill or a thrift shop.  Or,  just use the dutch oven lid.  And then look for a #8 dutch oven bottom.  Very common bottom.  And usually cheap without a lid.

Good luck.
