Hello Gary. As common as the number eight is, if it was me and I wanted one, I'd just wait and get it complete. If it was five or six dollars I'd say go for it. But that price for the bottom ain't no bargain. I'd just walk on by. :)

In the last couple months, I"ve seen quite a few #8 bottoms, none for as cheap as $25. Most were double or triple that. Some parts of the country, iron seems to be cheaper than others. For $25, I probably would have bought it if it was in good condition. My $0.02

I would buy it as you can cook allot of things in it without a top. You could always get a glass lid really cheap !

There are a couple lids for that 8 on ebay right now. Cheapest one is 50 bucks.

Is it flat, pitted? That would be my yes/no. Lids to cook with, can be found, if you search with the measurement and a tape measure.

My mistake it was a #7 and I went back and bought it today $15 it's like new  also a
#11 gris muffin pan
#2 gris scotch bowl
and a gris Bucket ??? looks to be about 3 gals has a bucket handle and small ring hanging on the outside and has Griswold logo on bottom with the number 8. The bucket has a smaller ring about 11/2 tall on the bottom that might have fit down inside of a cook stove the bucket is in nice shape on the out side but inside is a mess very rusty and pitted, well only paid  $5 . Any one know if Griswold sold a bucket like this, let me know    Thanks

If it is in good shape, I'd buy it.  You will find a lid on eBay.  My observation is there are ten DO lids for sale for every pot, thanks to piss poor packing.
Hold still rabbit so I can dunk you in this bucket of lye!

Sounds like a concentic or eccentric kettle, but would need a picture to verify, as there are different 'kinds' of kettles. :)

Thanks Cheryl, I looked it up and it's a eccentric kettle it's 10 1/2'' wide at the top and 8 1/2'' tall, The bottom ring is 7''x about 1 1/2'' high. I can't tell if it's block or slant letters  but has the cross type logo and has the #8 to, I don't know if any thing else, Oh yah no wooden handle either.
Would you know around what year ??
I'll try to post some pick if I can.  Thanks
