MSR/Lodge?
« on: August 29, 2009, 11:43:14 AM »
I picked this one up a couple weeks ago, just finished cleaning it and wanted to confirm a marriage. By the way the inside is not pitted just a rough cast.

Lodge # RBK (Bottom)

Martin #7 Low Dome Cover

Right? / Wrong?

The lid is martin no doubt, but not as sure on the bottom. That bail attachment area looks Lodge, that backwards 7.  Martin's I've seen the bail attachment are has two holes not one. Lets see what others say.

I modified it. What I meant to say in my original post was: Lodge bottom / Martin cover... ;)

Looking at my Martin/King catalog (65), Martin had a #7 and a #8 "Perfection Round Bottom Pot" with those style ears (the catalog doesn't show a cover with the picture).  It also looks like the catalog rbp has single hole ears with the bail facing front/back like yours.  It also looks like they used the #7 rbp without a cover as a #70 planter pot 7"dia x 8" deep.  Unless shown otherwise, I would say both pieces are Martin.
Same catalog/page, the Martin smooth bottom DO has 2 hole ears.

With what you said Tom, I think I'll change my mind about the bottom being a Lodge. The reason for this is that the casting is rougher than any Lodge I've seen and which is common with Martin pieces. With that, I now have a #7 Martin RBK to add to my collection.

Interesting.  I have only a very few Martin pieces and they're pretty smooth.  Heavy and kinda clunky, yes, but not rough.

Is this what happens when you get old? Except for the #10 & #14 I have the set of Martin skillets. After I received your message I wnet back throught them, plus the 4-5 extras I have and only the #12 is rough, so my apologies to you and thanks for keeping me straight.
