What is the largest Scotch Bowl made?
« on: August 22, 2006, 07:50:28 AM »
I believe I have a #6 scotch bowl and do not recall ever seeing one that size before. It has some numbers on the bottom, but no maker name. Anything larger than a 6 out there? Thanks! JVN

Ok, here is a lengthy set of photos showing the item in question. It is far bigger than the Gris #5 I have, measuring to the outside of the bowl 13.5 inches. Can we all agree this is a scotch bowl? Or am I mistaken there? Anyway first picture shows the scotch bowls waiting to be cleaned. The item in question is on the bottom left.

whew! That about doubled the total number of posts I have made hahaha! Sereiously, any comments are welcome. I saw this on the floor of an antique store and could see the size was big from accross the room. I had to have it! I have been bragging too much about the bargains I have been finding so I wont tell you what I had to pay for this.  ::) Any comments? THANKS for looking. JVN

Last pic, probably not a true scotch bowl, no assist ring on the side.

Thanks Tom. I was wondering about the ring being an issue....mine has no ring either. Nor does it have more than a point on the lip. So, if this isn't a scotch bowl, what is it?

Hi John,
That's quite a nice stack of Scotch bowls you have there.  You don't by any chance have a Griswold Flat Bottom, slant logo, Erie, PA USA,  #5, pn 840, Scotch bowl in there that you would be interested in parting with, do you??  I am looking to buy one.

Thanks,         Scott

A Scotch Bowl does not have to have a tipping ring to still be a Scotch Bowl.  I think all the bowls pictured here are of the Scotch variety.

I have a Wagner Sidney #5 and an Erie #4 which is the same size.  The sizes differed between manufacturers -- less standardization than with skillets, it seems.
