On page 215 of the Red Book, there is a picture of a Martin with that thick reinforcing rim.  But your handle looks more like a BSR, and your NO.1 marking is more in line with the BSR markings, along with the tab on the lid.  Maybe the foundry felt the thicker rim made the walls on the deeper skillet stronger.

Tom, thanks for the very helpful added explanation. It makes a lot of sense. Also, I hope you don't think I was talkin about you when I talked about the yeahs and uh huhs, because I sure wasn't. If it seemed that way, please accept my apology.

I was just digressing. I do that a lot, well not a lot but sometimes, actually every now and then, now my uncle Harry, oh let me tell you a story about him, he was going to town one day, no I'll tell you one better'n that.

Perry, I didn't mind the feedback at all.  It really helps me.  It is a trait that I have had since I was a kid.  Always had to slow down and fill in the pieces I could see but failed to write down or articulate for others to understand.

Anyway if I took offense I would just carpool with Ellis to the next duel, he's less than an hour north of me.

Saw the 2 day old bigh horn sheep about an hour ago.  They move around like they have springs on their feet - boing, boing, boing.  Don't seem to bend their legs to move.  Just amazing.  Way cool.  One of the kids on my tour thought he saw a baby Mt. Goat.  I didn't but there was one expected today so I can hardly wait to get to work tomorrow to look around.

A bit off topic, but I didn't think we should keep talking about Ed's Johnson.

Tom

E mailed Saunders a photo of the skillet, he's saying as far he remembers, that one isn't BS&R, though the thick rim reminded him  of their double skillet.

Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.

Dwayne, could you send him a copy of the Johnson pot PDF and see if they made anything like it in concept?

TOM, you live an hour away from Ellis?  [smiley=eek2.gif] I knew there was somthing I didn't like about you, now I know what it is. As handy as you are I just know that Ellis has talked you into making him a single shot duelling pistol that turns into a machine gun or at the very least has a laser sight on it. Now I got to look over both shoulders now that I know Ellis is surely involved in some kind of conspiracy with you. Ellis has been acting high handed lately, now I know why. Well Ellis, what do you say now, now that your buddy Tom has let the cat out of the bag? >:(

Howdy! After seeing some of the photos and hearing all of the suggestions, I remembered an old pot I bought at a estate sale years ago. It is not in very good condition, pitted inside very badly, but the new pot fits into it perfectly, the helper handle on the skillet matches the handles on the older pot. See the photo.
And thanks for all the info and good conversation!!!
