Real Pup
« on: April 01, 2006, 07:12:45 PM »
Has all the correct markings, but has not been ground. Is it real or is someone coming out with killer repros?

that is the typical grind on all the originals that I have seen.  All of mine are ground like that.

Thanks Greg, this guy had 5 of them that he got dirt cheap and was worried they were repros and did not want to sell until he was sure.  I didn't think they were repros but I don't see many Gris pups. All but this one were spoken for until he was sure, but Vanessa sweet talked him out of this one, he let it go cheap too!  :) He also has several advertising Gris ashtrays like the one on p.185 4th blue book bottom center.

I've seen what appeared to be real Griswold pups both ways.  Smooth on the bottom and ones with ridges like yours Ed.  I have no idea if they are both real or made by different people.  I cant explain that cross pattern on the bottom on some, and not on others if they were made by the same foundry?

I don't leave her home often when I hunt iron. I can haggle with a guy over price and he won't drop a nickle. Ness can go up to the same guy and they'll knock $5-$10 off the price. We learned to act seperate at shows and flea markets a long time ago.

Ed, It's an art with some people.  I have a friend I love to take to flea markets and shows... she can talk vendors down 40% and almost get them to throw in their car keys.

Jenny does the same thing.   Guy won't move on the price for me.   I walk away and Jenny gets money off. :-/

Well I make mine, but it don't help me much. Vanessa's I get at Wild Mans Leather -N- Lace, they work real well. [smiley=yikes.gif]
