Picked up this Iron Mountain #12 skillet for $20.  How did I do?

  • I don't collect waffle irons; they just show up.

[size=12]In my own opinion, that's pretty good, provided that the skillet isn't warped and doesn't have any other problems.  They list for $50 in the blue book, in perfect condition.

In your first picture, the one looking down on the inside of the skillet, there looks to be a little irregularity along the rim from about 9:00 to 12:30 or so.  It looks to be on the top of the lift assist tab, too.  Is that pitting, or is it just crud that will clean off?  If it's pitting, then that might be why the skillet was priced lower than list.  If it's just crud, and there aren't any other issues with the piece, then you got a real nice price. I think you did great, providing cooking surface is smooth. I personally would give 20 for any number 12 with a good cooking surface. That is a great size for cooking with. If it was in excellent shape I believe it would be worth a good amount more than the 50 listed.

If that skillet doesn't have any issues, I would say it's worth north of $150.

I think you should have got it for around fifteen dollars or so.

Thanks for the input.  It's in the lye bath now.  I'll be sure to post some after pictures once I get it cleaned and seasoned.
