Griswold Erie #6, 3rd series
« on: August 14, 2016, 12:14:36 AM »
Hi, just bought this today.  It has some tool marks but they are shallow enough the cooking surface still feels smooth.  The seller may have used a bit too much crisco (or not wiped it off well) when seasoning, but it sits flat without wobble.  Any thoughts as to value?  I intend to use it.  Also, any significance to #699 versus #700 pattern number as the blue book says both were used for #6 Erie....

Thanks for any info.

Hello Stephen. The two different pattern numbers is not too unusual IMO. That is a very nice piece. And the tool marks are nothing that detract from the value of the piece. As for value, I'd say an easy one hundred and fifty dollars, if not that, then more. Congratulations on a very nice find.

Thanks very much for the info.  I paid less than your estimate.  However, it was part of a package deal including a Erie #12 3rd series and a BSR Dutch oven.  I am confident the price on the #12 was fair, however I overpaid for the Dutch oven.  I was most interested in the skillets and I failed to realize that the Dutch oven is a spinner until I got it home.  The fact that I got a deal on the #6 lessens the sting of my lack of diligence on the condition of the Dutch oven.
