Griswold Kettle #503
« on: July 11, 2016, 10:21:18 PM »
I picked up an old Griswold kettle a couple of days ago.  It is #503.  It has a wood handle and wood lid "lift."  It has a wavy bottom with the word Griswold written on it.  I tried to find a similar item on Ebay, but was unable to find my exact model. It looks like the "Colonial model", but is not fluted around the sides.  I am trying to find an estimate for what this is worth, as I purchased it for resale.  Thanks for any help anyone can provide.   :)

Thomas, a few pictures would be very helpful, as condition is critical to any valuation, AND in identifying a piece properly. :)

Almost sounds like a "Rapid" teakettle.  Griswold made some kettles with bottoms that were a series of concentric grooved circles rather than just a flat piece of aluminum.  I guess it was supposed to help it boil faster, but I don't know why.  A p/n of 503 would fit into the "Rapid" series, too, but would probably be a fairly small size.  I think in their literature, they actually called it "The Rapid," not just "Rapid."

I only have one of these myself; I've gotten pretty lukewarm when it comes to teakettles, since I don't really go for aluminum pieces otherwise.  They aren't worth much more than a regular colonial or flat-bottom kettle by Griswold.
