Griswold 954 cornbread pan
« on: June 02, 2016, 07:19:34 AM »
I'm not so worried about the value as much as dating this little guy.  I plan on keeping this as it is my first very own Griswold.   I think I got a good deal on it. I found it at Goodwill for $3.99. :)   It appears to be a variation of the #22 but it is not marked "22"  it is in what appears to be excellent condition.   I currently have it taking an easy off bath.

The Griswold Muffin Pan book (aka the yellow book) says that of the 15 variations of the pan listed in the book, you have variation 12. With so many variations, it is difficult to put a date on it.
And yes, you got a great deal on it.

Thank you very much for the info. :) Is there an online source that shows all the different variations?    My Google-FU  is weak on this one.  Lol

I do not know of any online source like that. If there was one, it would probably be a pirated copy of the yellow book. If you are going to invest in more cast iron, it would be well worth it to have some resource books of your own. These are the 3 books most collectors start with, and they are available online:
1.     The Book of Griswold & Wagner, Favorite, Wapak, Sidney Hollow Ware by David G. Smith and Chuck Wafford, fifth edition copyright 2010 (referred to by collectors as the Blue Book)
2.      The Book of Wagner & Griswold, Martin, Lodge, Vollrath, Excelsior by David G. Smith and Chuck Wafford copyright 2001 (referred to by collectors as the Red Book)
3.      The Griswold Muffin Pans by John B. Haussler copyright 1997 (referred to by collectors as the Yellow Book)

Tommy when you see them books I guarantee you will be amazed. Upon reflection I wish I would have bought the muffin pan book earlier in my collecting. Russell gave you excellent advice here. I probably have thirtysome books on cast iron cookware including catalog reprints. The books are great resources for a collector at any level.

There it is all stripped down and getting it's first coat with some of its siblings.  :)  There is a vintage lodge skillet, griswold no 5 skillet, bsr skillet, bacon press, and an unmarked square skillet that only says made in usa and has a no 2 on the bottom of the handle.
