Kettle
« on: March 05, 2015, 08:48:19 AM »
Recently purchased an aluminum kettle.  When I got it home, noticed it had markings on bottom. Was wondering when it was made, if it is rare, and how much it is worth.  The markings are Wagner Ware Sidney O Magnalite 4135 stamped in the bottom of the kettle.  Has wooden handle.

They have sold on e-bay for as little as 42.00 dollars and change to over 200.00 dollars!

Thanks for the reply Brian, but the ones I have seen on e-bay have been the 4133m models and only one 4135 which had very little info about it.  Maybe I should look again perhaps I overlooked some.  From what I have been able to find out, the 4135 is a bit larger than the 4133m.

Jay, this Magnalite Tea Kettle was made in two sizes;

4133 is 2 1/2 Qt.

4135 is 5 Qt.

I reference a 1936 Wagner Catalog showing this item.

The handles and knobs are finished in old maple.
In 1936, the line of Magnalite utensils were designed by Van Doren and Rideout.
(don't know who that was, but that is how the catalog advertises this line of cookware) :) :)

The Redbook shows only the 4133.  The Red and Blue Books show only a small portion of the many, many Aluminum items produced by both Wagner and Griswold.

 :)

There is one for sale on the bay at $500.00 OBO
I feel that one won't bring close to that!
The draw on these kettles is the art deco styling...they are quite attractive
