Erie second series No. 10 target / bull's eye mark
« on: January 24, 2015, 12:16:11 PM »
Picked this up on the Bay a week ago. Undoubtedly overpaid, but just wondering what value you guys would put on it.

The only issue is some pretty gnarly pitting in the inside sidewall of the pan. If I have to have pitting in a skillet, that's where I want it I think. It also has a pretty noticeable upward cupping of the cooking surface, but does sit flat on the heat ring. Markings are crisp and pristine though!

Here's a few more, including a family shot with his younger, smaller brother.

Hello Jared. You don't see pitting on the side like that very often at all, makes me think it might actually be the casting just come out rough. But with this piece having the issues like it has, for a collector piece the value is small. Somebody might buy it because of the bulls eye mark on it. And its a nice size to cook with so as a user I would not want to put more than thirty dollars in it because you can buy a lot of user skillets in the thirty dollar range. Its a nice looking piece so it does have that going for it.  :)

I would put it a little higher. Haven't seen an Erie 10 go for less than 50 unless it was cracked. So I would say at least 50.
An interesting thing about that skillet that I've wondered about...see that notch on the rib of the handle? I have an 8 that has that notch, and have seen quite a few other Erie's that have it...but not all do. I thought somebody did that to mine at some point, but now I think that happens at the foundry for some reason. Maybe from being mounted on the milling/grinding machine? I haven't seen this mentioned before, maybe it has, but quite a few Erie pans have that notch. Why do you think that is?  :-?
