Hello Mark. They are not on ebay for 1000.00 and 1100.00. The one that sold at the Simmons auction was not like the one that sold on ebay, nor the one that Tom Oen is/was asking about. The one that sold at Simmons was a number 13 Griswold with the loop handles. The one here on ebay is not like that one. And that makes a huge difference. So all number 13 Griswolds are not created equal, at all.   Smiley

Hi Perry, Yes I did see that you mentioned loop handles at the Simmons auction earlier, and I do understand the increased value that would bring...although one just like it just sold for 1200 and change on the Goodwill site. That surprised me...I thought it would go much higher. As for the skillet Tom is talking about, there is nothing I can see other than " a slant Griswold #13 skillet. Maybe you discussed it with him privately?

Hello Mark. No I didn't discuss this with Tom. But I know Tom and have met him and been to functions and places that he was at also. But as for slant Griswold number 13 skillets there are three different ones, maybe more but I do know the three.

And that one at the Goowill place, that one went under the radar I would say.

Could be it did Perry, but it was discussed quite a bit in the members only section and got over 300 views.  I was thinking a few of the collecting members would really go after it, knowing how scarce they are. And maybe some lucky wags member did get it for that price..who knows. I hope it was.
Now, if you go back and look, the first reply to Tom's question, was me asking him which slant #13 he was referring to, as I knew of 3 also. I'm *pretty* sure he didn't mean loop handle or he would know to mention that.  Funny thing is, 2 pages later, he's never come back to say. But anyway, it's been a fun thread so thanks Tom! ;D ;)

Mark from what I understand, a WAGS member did get that one out at the Goodwill store. So it came out good.  :)

Well I hope you're right. I know if it were me, I'd be crowin'  about it somewhere on this board, lol

You should've bought it Perry, you could've doubled your money at the next big auction somewhere!  ;)

I was quoted by someone $2500.00 for a slant Griswold "ERIE" one of two pans I am missing for my collection, the other the #1.  :(

Mike, if that bundt pan is in good shape, they're selling high on ebay right now. That popover pan looks like a BSR. And the handle above the popover looks like it might belong to a gate-marked skillet. Good luck on that.

I put a nice 13 slant EPU on EBAY for a friend a little over a year ago and if brought $867. I think the days of $1100 for this skillet are long gone unless two bidders get locked in an ego battle.

There may also be 'suspicion' regarding the undefined wobble on this piece. The description is sketchy, and as a potential buyer turns me away at that price.... :)

While iron prices for commons like 3,5,8,9's are pretty high, it seems to me the "rare" pieces that brought good prices "in the good ole days" aren't bringing half of what they used to.

Most likely the Internet has shown the community that 13's aren't nearly as uncommon as once believed. I almost feel bad for some of the collectors that have been around for years and years and may have large sums to money invested in some of these pieces that aren't fetching what they used to.

Of course, on the other hand, you see second series Erie skillets going for $300-$400 and collectors gave $20 for them, so I guess it all evens out.

I also find it funny that Griswold and Wagner always fetch the highest prices, yet these are the easiest ones to find compared to Martins, Favorites, CHF, arc logo Lodges etc...

I did get a chance to see what the the Craigslist seller had to offer, there was one person before me that got the best of the lot, although nothing special like #1 or #13 slant Griswold ERIE that I am looking for, ( I asked him) all the big skillets were unmarked 10s 11s 12s etc. the person before me bought 60 pieces of Griswold and Wagner, plus the unmarked Bunt pan, so not much else was left. He did still have over 100 pieces still in his storage locker all for $500.00 I just didn't have 5-6 lye baths and 3-4 ovens plus the time and energy to clean it all and try to sell it. LOL
