Griswold Large Logo #14
« on: August 13, 2014, 05:51:03 PM »
I just put my new ebay purchase in the Lye bath. I paid $218 for it. Its by far the most I've ever spent on 1 skillet. Looks to be in great shape. Did I spend to much?

Nope... you didn't spend too much.

I'd have given that. (If no cracks, pitting or... warp or wobble) !!

No wobble cracks or pitting. I did a little scrub on it before I put it in the lye and under the buildup you can see the casting lines. ill post pics when done. Thanks Cheryl for the advice and help with the Lye bath. It works amazing.

That's a beauty Gary. I'd have given that too.  What casting lines do you mean..the inside milling marks?

I guess that would be the lines im talking about. They kind of look like a vinyl record just not as extreme. Heres some pics of my other #14 I have. You can see the lines im talking about.

Gary, nice #14s.  I have seen Griswold Large Logo #14s go in the low $260s on e-bay, so I would agree, you didn't overpay.  I think if I was selling it on e-bay I might be a little disappointed with $218.00. :-?

Thanks Russell I was wondering what that 14 was. It was caked pretty bad so I left it in the lye bath for about 3 weeks. It cleaned up really nice. I paid 90 for that one. probably overpaid but I love using it so I don't really mind. Jim on the Griswold 14 I went 280 max bid and there was already 16 bids before mine with 14 hours left. I was shocked that there wasn't a single bid after mine. Guess I was lucky. Im down to my last 2 pans for my Griswold Large Logo without heat ring set. I need the #2, and the #10. That #2 is gonna hurt the pocket book a bit.

I was wondering who put the pick on that.  At least I think the one I was looking at sold.  Sometimes hard to find the sale after it disappears as available for BIN or bid.

Hard to find Griswold 14s that are truly flat.  Know several nice one that are not quite flat.  Just finished a long mean ebay dispute over what "perfectly level / unwarped" should mean, and what resolution should be.  Still looking for one.
Best Regards,
Neal

I did say no wobble but it does have the slightest wobble in one spot. Its so minimal that I wouldn't call it a wobble. The hardcore collectors would call it a wobble. This set is something that I'm going to use and pass down to my grandson some day.
