Marrietta Pa. #9 skillet
« on: May 19, 2014, 02:16:07 PM »
I saw one of these the other day in a thrift shop. It has the so called upside down handle marked with a 9, bottom is marked Marietta PA and R&C  9 IN. Has the outside heat ring and bottom gate mark. Bottom shows a little light rust but no pitting, and def needs a lye bath...but looks like it will clean up nicely.  Tag says 30 bucks. Any idea of the age and worth of this skillet? Thanks.

As for age I would guess late 1800's.  The R & Co skillets I have all have a single pour spout.  I don't think $30 is bad for a #9.  To me that is about what it is worth.  You might check it with a straight edge as they can have some dip in the bottom, but still sit flat on the heat ring.

Hi Roger, thanks.  Yes, this had the single pour spout too. I tried checking for bow with a piece of paper sitting nearby, lol, but I'll bring a better straightedge with me. I don't mind a little downwards bow, hate an upwards bow tho. I'll see if they'll take 25...bet they will.  ;)
