Wagner Ware Set - Whats a fair price
« on: May 05, 2010, 10:38:12 PM »
HI there,

I have found a set of Wagner Ware Skillets, they share a common W, Wagner is curved Ware is straight across, and they have Sidney -O-, though one only has Sidney O. They are being offered bu a forum member here

They have been offered in a set sized 3,5,6,8,10,12, they are from the era 1939-1959, though I have been told by seller that they are all pre 1940, from Blue book. Can anyone confirm this?

They are numbered 1053 ( Missing the -O-), 1056, 1058, 1055, 1060, 1062.

Condition is said to be excellent.  Flat bottom etc.

I want these as pieces to use not to collect, but saying that I want the best I can for the money.

What would you expect a fair price for these would be?

Rgds

Well Ben.   They look pretty nice.   I see the #3 has the O there,  but is missing the dashes before and after the O.   Interesting.    The whole set is probably worth $75-100 total.   the #12 bringing the money.   Probably $40-50 for the 12 alone.   The 3,5,6,and 8 are $5-10 skillets.   The #10 is about $15-20    If he wants more than $100   Talk him down.  Common,  but GREAT users.

He is asking for over $200

I thought it was expensive but he arked up a bit when I ask for cheaper price.

I am pretty new here so am a bit concerned with being ripped off.  These items seem to go for a little to a lot depending on how the wind blows.

Anyone else have a similar set available?

Ben,
When you say that this person (the potential seller) is a member of this forum, Do you mean to say they are a WAGS member? Does their name show up in blue?

When people join WAGS, they are held to a standard, by our ethics statement. If a WAGS member were to try to take advantage of a visitor, that would violate the ethics agreement.

I hope this is not the case.

It what instance would these be worth the quoted price?

Maybe I have misunderstood what the seller is offering.

Even in A1 never used condition, would these items be worth this much?

Unused with a label on each one would still be hard to sell for $200 for all.   They are just so common.   But being from Australia I bet shipping from the US will be a killer.   Is that $200 shipped to you????   I bet shipping will be over $50 maybe even closer to $75 for all the skillets to you.   I didn't take that in to consideration.   Or is he or she asking over $200 plus shipping.

Ben,

I am slightly confused also.  I do think that over 200 dollars is high, but if the skillets have been cleaned, seasoned and sit very flat, I would think they are worth (averaged out)  20 dollars a piece.  There is alot of time invested in cleaning and seasoning 6 skillets.  If you have the time I think you could put together the skillets you mentioned for under 100 dollars, but you may have to do some of the cleaning and seasoning.  My personal opinion for price is 120-130 if they are in great condition.  If people tell you that they are worth alot less, see if they will sell you theirs.  Sometimes convenience and time is worth a little extra.

Delivery is quoted at 170$

So 215 + 170

Delivery is to Oz.

From the photos, condition to me seems Good/Great but not outstanding.

I would be happy to clean and season my own skillets.  If someone has something to offer.

I have got a add in the Wanted section, basically 6 or so skillets either Griswold (prefered) or Wagner, No HR, and pre 1940 pans.

Not to concerned if I have to cl;ean them, but want them to be in VG to E condition.

Buyer Beware hey

Cheers

Ben,
I hope you are successful in finding a set for a reasonable price.

I think this thread should serve as a reminder to everyone that all purchases should be researched, regardless of the sellers credentials.

Buyer Beware indeed.

Gene, I agree with you.  I wouldn't sell any skillet I have bought and cleaned and seasoned for less than $25.  I need to find the people selling the $5 skillets cleaned and seasoned and the $15 # 10's.  "If people tell you that they are worth alot less, see if they will sell you theirs".  Yeah, tell them to send you their set for $60.

It doesn't matter to me either way but this just seems like bad advice some people are giving here, now Ben is on a wild goose chase hunting $5 skillets.

That was my exact first thought Perry, but then I felt the urge to respond for some reason.  I think your response sums it up the best though.

Will, Again I don't really care but all I am saying is if somebody is willing to put a value on something they need to be willing to sell one of their's for that.  So, send Ben some of your $5 wagner skillets.

You have your opinion and I have mine, you don't need to get all pissy about it when somebody disagrees.

Just directed to a total of three people giving advice.   That is fine.

So,  what is the value of a #10  and #12?    #3,5,6,8 all are $25 skillet to you.   So,  there is $100   I guess the #10 and #12 total $115

Well Ben.   That is his opinion.   $215

After looking at Ebay hard,  I will guess a better price of $120.00 for all,  plus shipping.

Around here I find #3,5,6,8 all for $10 and under.   Some do ask $50 and I just laugh.

Take it for what you want,  they are all opinions.
