3503 is a hammered aluminum #3 skillet.   507 is an aluminum #7 skillet.

Thanks Will. the 3503 is very dim. I would have thought it would have been stamped as a "second"     Tom

Perry I agree with you on a item marked "second" as my two are, it is not of top quallity. I have never saw an item marked "second to none" but would  expect it to be of highest of quality.  Tom

Hello Tom. If it was me, I'd use some Dawn dish washing detergent and an SOS pad and some elbo grease.

And as for them pieces being marked "Second". I would say the company marked them that way, so that employees could buy them at a discount price instead of melting them down and redoing them.

I was going to suggest using Dawn Power Dissolver. This used to be on the aluminum cleaning section but is no longer there. I don't know why because this stuff works very well. With this you should only have to spray it down, keeping it off from the wooden handles as it will remove the paint. Also I wanted to warn you about removing the handles on this. I don't know if this style of pan has the metal keeper in the handle but the hammered ones do. Maybe someone here more knowledgeable on this kind will speak up here. All I know is that if you try to remove the handles from the hammered ones without being aware of this, they start to turn and then snap the rod. I don't know if this style is the same or if it is threaded into the pan handle itself. I just wanted you to be aware of this, that why I give the warning. Anyway here is the link to the Dawn Power Dissolver.

The only warning I have about Dawn Power Dissolver on aluminum, is don't put it in a plastic trash bag. A plastic shopping bag is OK, but not a trash bag. I did this to a couple of pieces, and I think it reacted with the gabage bag somehow, and ate away at the aluminum. I was able to save the pieces, because I didn't leave them in long, and was able to smooth the surface of the aluminum with a bit of elbow grease.

Has anyone else had this experience?

Well, let me be stupid here. But, to me, "second 2 none" means there is nothing better, so why anyone think it was a second? If it just said "second", I could see where it could be thought that it was some kind of cull.

Ditto - that's how I've always understood that phrase. And if it's on a product it would not indicate that it's a second of any sort.
