« on: February 08, 2010, 09:04:49 AM »
Okay, Today I got an email I just want to check what people think is a good price for #14 block logo. I will be putting in my application to wags as well. Thanks much for all your help.

If the piece is in great condition I would say $125-150 would be market price for the standard block logo(some go higher but this is where I think these are just blips and I would never pay that for them!).  For me it is important that the piece is cleaned and seasoned so you can see any and all defects if I am going to pay full market price for one.  I will generally only pay half or a bit more for a piece that is not cleaned as you are taking a risk.

Glad to here that you are going to join WAGS  :D :D

Thanks, that is about what I was thinking it should go for. Seems like prices on Ebay are getting a little out of control.

Prices on ebay, unless its a rare piece, are way down. If you can buy number 14 block logo Griswold skillets, for 125.00, that are not warped, cracked, bowed, pitted, or worn out, then that is a great deal, and I will take a dozen for myself at that price.  ;)

From what I have seen, the number 12's are bringing that much. And I don't think thats too high for a number 12, that is 125.00.  :)

Yeah this is my line of thinking also, $125 for one nothing is wrong with, sign me up.

I think the 14 is in the $250 range all day for a good one.

Blake, just as a nice easy friendly courteous reminder here.  :)

If you are going to quote somebody, that is fine, and I do it all the time, and so do plenty others, of course, thats why the button is there. However, you can not change what they say, and then quote them. To quote somebody is to state verbatim what that person said. :)

Yes a really nice large block logo #14. Cleaned and seasoned. Factory grind marks on the cooking surface still visible. About $250, then down from there. I'd figure on 200-250. For a really nice one. If it's got some wear from use (cooking surface gind marks are all gone, scratches, etc - IOW has some character:))
$175-200. Then down from there.

If there's a lid - the bidding can get crazy.

None of the above have any defects of the type others mention above. If they do, then the price goes down accordingly.

FYI - my second one is sitting on the range now. Used it several times over the weekend to sear some ribs, meatballs, and braciola. Today going to sear some tri tip for Santa Maria style chili :) These are nice pieces. Big and really benefit from a pre-heat in the oven before use. They do need the lift tab on the other side from the handle  :D

My first one, RIP - sad story.

Just remember there is the #14 block logo, 718,  EPU skillet. And then the #14, 15 1/4 inch marked skillet that is also marked with the Griswold block logo from Wagner. It cooks the same but it is different.

Of course you're absolutely correct Mark. The one I am talking about, and I ASSUME, others are talking about as well, is the Griswold 718 Block Logo EPU, and not the Wagner made one.  :)

Thanks for posting those Ed. I see the one sold for 95.00, and by the looks of it, the seller was lucky they got that much for it.

My opinion is that the EBay prices have been on the high side for these #14 skillets.  This is what I was referring to as the blip.  Of course this is only my opinion?? They are far from hard to find all you have to do is have some patience and you can get one on the cheap side.

Hello, well one of your members has offered me one at what seems to be a fair price. The wife took a little convincing, but I again appreciate all the help. I will be trying to figure out how to do that online member application asap.

OK, now I see why Perry doesn't want to strap #14's to his feet to walk in the snow. (different thread...weather thread)  They do sound expensive.

How are the #3's working out? ;D

Hello Mike, thanks for asking. In one inch of snow the number threes are great as snow shoes, and for the price, you can't beat them.  ;D

And the price of the 14's, from my observations, they are a 200.00 range skillet, and have been for quite some time, if you can buy one for 125.00, and its in good shape, you better jump on it, BEFORE ME.  ;)

Hello Tom, yes, the slant logo bumps the price considerably. OHHHH, 5, 6, hundred dollars, if you're lucky enough, 450.00 dollars.

Thomas the Slant EPU skillets are worth considerably more that the block logo ones.  When they come up on EBay they bring $500-700 in real good shape.  I have never seen a Slant Erie 14 sell on ebay or anywhere for that matter.

;D ;D ;D Differences of opinion are what makes the world go round Jeff. It would be a dull world indeed if everybody thought like YOU, or worse yet, LIKE ME.  ;D ;D ;D

And Jeff, I'm sending a U-Haul trailer, complete with locking door, to your house. When you get it full of them 125.00 number 14 Block Logo Griswold skillets, fire off a shot, and I'll be up to tow them home.  ;) ;D
