Griswold #11 Trivet
« on: May 24, 2009, 01:00:45 AM »
Anyone have any idea of the value of a Griswold #11 Trivet. It is 10-1/4" in diameter and marked ~ 11 on one of the tabs with THE GRISWOLD MFG CO ERIE PA USA below that along the rim and TRIVET and 209 above and below the center hole. It is in Great condition with no warping cracks or other damage.

Hey Jake,
Accoding to The Book of Griswold & Wagner, AKA the "Blue Book", which by the way is an excellent source of info and prices for Griswold CI, $75 - $125, if it's cast iron. If it's aluminum, it would be somewhat less. That's for one in excellent condition. Could you post some pictures of it?

I am not positive but I think that these larger ones are harder to get a hold of so the price might be a little higher than what the book says.

Perry you got any ideas on this piece??

Hey Jake, just don't go off any prices from an ebay member named CHEAP CHUCK. (It's not me). His stuff is way overpriced. He doesn't sell much of it either, unless a newbie buys it, and then they realize later that they could have gotten it for alot less.

Hey Chuck ~ I hear you ~ I never go by one or two prices when I try to place a value on things. I try to see trends over longer periods of time. People go nuts sometime on ebay and I have never been able to understand it. I used to sell on ebay but I moved over to Ruby Lane. It turned out to be a lot less hassle ~ True you don't get to take advantage of "Auction Fever" but I usually get a fair price for things without all the ebay headaches. I have been buying and selling for over 30 years (Flea Markets, Shows, Five years in a Shop and finally the Internet) and have found out that getting greedy never works out in the long run. If you give someone a fair deal ~ a lot of times they come back and deal with you again. But once you take advantage of someone you usually never see them again. Thanks for the input,
Jake

Jeff, the 11, 12, and 13 are the hardest to find. Value, 11 around 200.00, 12 around 5 and then some, and 13 around 1000.00, give or take on these prices some. My opinions.

Thanks for the great info ~ This is one I will probably sell so I can finance more trips to the sales this summer. Someday I will have enough space and money to start saving some of the good stuff for me. Sure with I had some of the stuff I bought and sold over the years. But half the fun is going out and finding it and cleaning it up. Thanks again to all,
Jake

Hello Jake, and you're welcome. You ain't gonna find too many trivets like this, I mean the 11, 12, and 13, or maybe I am mistaken? Have you ever had any of these before? Take care and do come back and see us again Jake.  :)

I think that Perry is right on the money with this one.  If you think that you may ever want one of these #11 trivets again you had better just keep this one.  It won't hurt a thing if you put it somewhere out of the way (on top of a cupboard or somewhere) and save it for a rainy day.  These are rareish birds that will do nothing but increase in value over time.  JMO but they aren't going to make any new ones any time soon.

You're both probably right. It has been a long time since I had one of these ~ I bought and sold tons of CI in the 70's and 80's ~ If I remember correctly I think the last one of these #11s I had I sold at a show in 1978 for about 25 bucks and thought I got a great price for it. I have to tell you though ~ this one was an accidental purchase ~ I didn't even know I had bought this until I got home. I bought the Pressure Cooker in the picture last weekend at a Yard Sale for 5 bucks and it had a basket and a few canning odds and ends in it when I bought it. It wasn't until I got home and went to clean it out that I found the Trivet way down at the bottom under a couple layers of newspaper.

Take a look at the bottom of the inside ~ You can see where it sat in the cooker for a while ~ Thankfully they dried everything fairly well before they closed it up or it probably would have rusted up pretty good. As it is it was a little greased up but an overnight soak in a lye bath pretty well took care of things. Wish I could have this kind of luck more often.

very lucky indeed.  That #11 is a prize to find.  If you do find one, they are likely broke as well.

I seen a nice big number 13 trivet once, and it had two nice cracks in it, not long, just through two sections.  :(
