Youth is the future of the hobby.

So true!! I did not doubt one word of what you said Troy. Sure wish Blake had more time to spend on here. Nice to meet you Blake, even tho we ain't met in person..... ED

This is all true. If I knowed somebody around me a little worthy, I'd give them some stuff, kind of a start up kit if you will. Problem is, most young people, certainly not all now, don't seem to have an appreciation for these kinds of things. I would say then that is up to people like us to plant the seeds.

Hey Blake. I am sure you got a nice collection from what Troy is saying. NOW, this is what I wanna know. Have you got any of it for sale and if so what?

Maybe some money for Nintendo Games, I don't even know if they still make them or not, or maybe how about some money for a new television that you don't need, or some of them other thumb games, or maybe some money for some souped up wheels for your car, or money for a high compression radiator cap for your car, or some OTHER worthwhile item that MAYBE you just gotta have and would like to convert some of that old junk cast iron you got laying around in your way into some funds to purchase these highly wanted, gotta have, things.

I hope you know I'm just messin with you.  ;D
But if you have anything for sale, or I can send you an IM, either way.

Good to hear from Blake.  I met Blake and his dad at a GCICA meeting in LA many years ago.  If I remember he was racing back then too.  He sure has done a lot for a young man.  Proud to know him that is for sure.  Great guy!

Perry,

Careful, Careful.  LOL I sold an Everquest gaming character back in the day for more than a good size 13 DO goes for...  and I still game 2-3 days a week online as my other hobby!   :D :D :D  I am the youngest "old fart" you will ever meet.  25 years in and still under 40!

great to hear from all of yall.  Thanks so much for all of the kind comments, I am not deserving of it for sure.  Yeah I met Greg at the LA convention a few years ago and talked to Troy so much I feel like I know him also.  Yeah you wouldn't believe the looks I used to get when I would pick up a pan at a 65 year old guys table, he would ask me or look at me and say "son you know what you are looking at", "uuuuummmmm, yes sir I think I can figure it out"  "Will you take $5 for it??".  It was and still is very fun though, I wish there were more young people involved as that is the only way this hobby can even continue.

I have put together a nice collection as Troy said but I haven't been able to add to it much in the last 5 years or so.  I been trying to sell it down and sell the common pieces and get it to a size that I can enjoy looking at it.  Racing, college, work and women took over the collecting, she is very supportive of my hobby though.  I literally work 6 days a week from dark to dark so I am hardly ever on the forum, I just jump on and put my 2 cents in when I can.

Yeah Troy I am down in DAWG country, actually live close to GATOR country living about 10 mins from the FL line but still in GA just barely, THANK GOD!!!.

Troy I still want to go fishing man if I can ever break away.  Well, i'll stay in touch as I can.

later, -Blake

Tommy, as you can probably guess, I have no idea what an "Everquest gaming character" is, BUT, it sounds expensive.  ;D

Blake, free advice... sell it down to the best and the prettiest before you end up moving it around from place to place for 15 years.  I have moved books and pottery from SC to New England, NJ and back down to Mobile.  It's just ridiculous.  Don't worry to much about the future of collecting.  Most people don't start until they are in their 40's and 50's.  And plenty of people will always collect things of enduring value.  Now... as the Shirley Temple collectors die off and the Beatles collectors start to die off and the video game and Star Wars collectors gear up for their prime earning years...  they too will die off.  But things of multi-generational value and interest will always find a market.
