That is one sad bail.   The iron looks great.   Either bend up a new bail.   Or wait until you find a broken base with a good bail.

That's a good plan Will. I'll have to keep my eye out for another base/bail.

There is a big discrepancy in the condition of the bail and the rest of the piece. I wonder if one of the previous owners just replaced the bail with something because it was broken or missing...

Well Bill, it looks to me like they kept the old original bail and just replaced the rest of it.  ;)
