Price on Waffle Iron
« on: August 08, 2007, 02:43:16 PM »
I found a Griswold #11 Waffle Iron in a little antique shop last weekend that is in great condition - perfectly seasoned, no cracks, no rust, no nicks - just beautiful. It looks just like the one on the 'eye candy' page - http://www.wag-society.org/eye_candy.php?id=46
(I don't remember the base handle having four holes like that, just one, but I could be mistaken...)

They are asking $100 for it. It's more than I want to pay, but I'm wondering if it's a fair price. Any info you can provide would be appreciated!

Bill, I remember seeing the high base #11 model sell for around $100 on ebay in good shape.  The one on the eye candy page is less common, but I don't know what they sell for.

Very less common with the low base with side handle.  Low base with bail handle is much more often found.  I'd say the side handle low frame would be up there maybe up to or around $150, maybe more for a nice one.  $100 would be a bargain.

Thanks Steve and Roger! Now that you mention it, I'm not sure about the short base or the side handle. I'll have to go back and check to be sure - maybe even take a picture (but it's so dark inside...). Assuming that it has a front handle and a high base, is the $100 price a good deal?

Pay in cash and ask for a discount.   Allot of places will give 10% off.    $100 is a good price to pay.

Is there a handled, HIGH base No. 11? I think the ones I have seen are all low bases. And worth the price if it's in good shape.

Harry, I can't remember if I've seen a high, side handle square frame.  But looking in my catalog info I do see one along with the low side handle frame in Bulletin E-7 dated 11-19.

I saw one on Ebay and I am pretty sure it went north of $300

Mike, I've never had any side handle No.11 Griswold waffle irons.  And saw very few of them in years.

OK - I bought it - paid $80 for it (too much?). It's a #11 with a high base and a bail type handle. Other than that, it's exactly like the picture ;)

The base says "Griswold", "987", and "11D". One side of the iron is marked with a "363" and the other with "364".

It's in very good shape with the exception of the wire bail handle. Seems to have quite a bit of pitting - it may not be original, but I'm not sure how to tell.

I'll try to post some pictures later.

Thanks, Bill

$80.00 is cheaper than I have seen them on Ebay.   Plus no shipping,  you get to see item before buying.   I think you did well.

Hello, hello, can you hold the phone closer to your mouth?  I can't tell if the bail is original or a replacement.  Compare with other photos showing the details at the bend where the bail attaches to the iron.

Saw one identical to the one you just bought at our local flea market today for $85.00   Didn't get it as I have one already.   Was in nice shape.   If anyone wants one for about that price plus shipping,  if it is there next month,  I will pick it up.

Bail attaches the same as the one I have, also both bails are wider at the bends than where they attach to the base so looks original to me.  Strange the bail is so pitted and the rest of the piece looks in good condition.  Mike
