couple of strange looking pans??

Hello everybody and I picked up a couple of strange looking pans, well really ones a gridle I guess. There not in the greatest of shape by no means but I am always looking for something a little different. I will let the pictures do most of the talking but the strange handles got me wondering and the only markings are the 8 on the gridle. Its almost a flat handle.Any ideas on these two would be apperciated.Let me know what you think and if they are worth anything.    SAM

Sam,  I'm going to take a quess on the skillet.  I think it may be W.C. Davis & Co., Cincinatti, Ohio?  I have one that looks very much like yours, the handle is distinct, but is marked.  Is it lighter in weight?  The griddle..I have no clue.  If the skillet is what I think it is, it's a nice early one, pre 1900.  If I'm wrong, someone will set it straight!   Judy

Those WC Davis skillets show up in sizes 7-9 and maybe others I have not seen.  The handle on the 9 raises up noticeably more than on the smaller pans.  I would say that a little more than half the Davis skillets are marked and the rest unmarked or partially marked.  I've seen no variations in the Davis skillets in each size.  They all have solid handles and the one lip like that.  
The griddle I don't know about though it's typical for early c.1870-90 griddles.

Thanks  Judy and Steve You both were very helpful and do you think the griddle could be WC DAVIS. The reason I am asking is simply because the bottoms are so much alike and the weight as they both are a lighter weight cast iron. Any idea on the value. Thanks again.  SAM

I have seen WC Davis skillets, tea kettles, waffle irons, four sizes of gem pans (all marked except for the unmarked but identical to the marked skillets) and I can't think of any other pieces.  There were so many foundries in the old days that it is usually a guess with no answer to who made the unmarked pieces.  Casting technology was pretty uniform among the iron cookware makers so there would undoubtedly be many similiarities among different pieces.  Handle griddles don't too often seem to be similiar to their skillet brothers and are usually pretty primitive.
