possible e-tank power source...
« on: July 01, 2017, 12:48:35 PM »
I picked this up for $10 at a local estate sale. It's a older, heavy unit and I thought it might work...? I don't see anything in the specs saying "DC output xx" though, any ideas?
Did I get a AC welder by mistake?

Looks like an AC welder to me.  The lower cost welders you could get from Sears and Wards that run on 115 volt AC tend to be AC welders.  Good, light duty, general purpose welders.

I have used my DC arc welder as a power source in the past.  Works fast, but you really have to watch it.  Can boil away several gallons of solution in a couple hours.  Really a waste of power.

DC does not have a phase so yes you have an AC arc welder.

And for $10 I would say you got a nice deal...if you need an arc welder

Oh well, it was worth $10 just for the idea... I'll donate it to someone.
