Why Do I Like EvapoRust?
« on: April 24, 2017, 02:55:14 PM »
Because it works and makes cleaning easy.

This is a John Wright Harvest Pan that wasn't too bad after a 3 week lye soak.

I just didn't feel like scrubbing between bottoms of the cups.

(and no, not fire damaged, just plain red rust.)

The before pictures.

After an 8 hours EvapoRust soak, rinse in warm, soapy water and a wipe with a washrag.  Then a coat of room temp mineral oil, wiped off.

EvapoRust is the lazy man's cleaning dream.  Expensive, but it sure works.  (Although I bought a 3.5 gallon bucket with dipping basket for about $50 from Amazon Prime last year.)

I needed this pan like a hole in the head, but has one of nicest Made In USA markings I've seen on this pan.

WOW. Tom that is sweet. I THINK I have some EvapoRust. I'll have to check and see. I sure do like the results. All them nooks and crannies, especially on muffin pans, are a bear to clean.

That's exactly what it works best on.  Anything will intricate nooks and crannies.

Hello Jim. Wise choice. I don't blame you one bit. I have cleaned a couple bundt pans and I want no more of them. I believe if somebody wanted to give me one, that needed cleaned, I don't think I'd take it if I had to clean it the way I cleaned the others. Them bundt pans got more angles than a barrel of fish hooks.

I buy one gallon at a time.

I also have a selection of plastic containers.

It is hard to estimate.

The OLDER iron kills the solution more quickly.

(I have no idea why, but this has been observed by others also)

The advertising says 350 lbs... if I remember correctly...

It is very important that the entire piece is totally submerged, and that there are NO air bubbles trapped... or else permanent lines form.

And if you forget something like Waffle Iron handle (coil) for 4 + months and then remember them... well.. it is not pretty...

Brian Wood found that out the hard way... too much of a good thing = destroyed coil handles.......

But boy do I love the stuff for my smalls and toys, and
Waffle Iron Coil handles and pins (24 hours makes them look gorgeous)... Wash, dry, 0000 steel wool.

I put every thing thru the lye bath first.

Oops... 300 lbs...

http://www.evapo-rust.com/product-info/

I didn't realize it was now available in a 3.5 gallon size.

PS... I used Evapo to restore my Grandpa's and Dad's antique tools...
which were a mess...  just loved the results on those too...
