Nickel plated Wagner tea-size corn cleaning
« on: December 27, 2015, 02:59:51 PM »
I've got this little tea-size Wagner Krusty Korn Kobs pan with lots of rust in the cobs and peeling nickle on the bottom. I've looked over the archives and still don't know the best approach to cleaning this one. It has very thick pieces of nickel peeling from the bottom and I would be afraid electrolysis would worsen the problem. Molasses (10:1) is my usual method, but I've read that it can affect the nickel. I'm wondering if Evaporust in the upper part is my best option?

Attaching second pic worked for me.

You must click on the attachment + to the left to open the second and third browse boxes.

I would use the evaporust....

I prefer not to put peeling plating in the electro.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. The weather is a little cool out in the garage though...maybe if I bag it it will go unnoticed in the den.

The next project is this one...it will need a little more than a puddle of Evaporust.

Within the past hour, I set up the boot tray in the kitchen, and the evaporust bucket.

The electro is running out in the unheated garage, but I doubt it will do the job I need it to do right now, as temps have fallen into the 30's now.

Will probably pump out both electros in the next few days.

I also set up a small lye bath in the kitchen if needed (boot trays work great to contain drips..) and a small vinegar bath if needed in the laundry room.  Winter time means getting inventive. !

Evaporust it was, and it came out nicely. I got the nickel kind of yellowy, but I wanted to hit the bare spots with the PAM to protect it. Maybe a touch-up with oven cleaner on the non-food-surface nickel to get it shiny again?
