Dutch oven cover
« on: May 26, 2015, 03:55:22 PM »
I have had this in the lye bath twice, pulled it out and tried to scrub it. However, I am still havin little luck getting it clean. I have never encountered this. It appears to be like a raised rust rash. So, what should I do? Season it as it is or something else? Thanks for any help.

Hello Janis. It looks like rust and pitting to me. Also like it was chromed or nickeled and it was taken off or wore of or rusted off. IMO its on there to stay.

I was thinking plated too when I saw that piece. The rough area could be where the rust was getting under the plating. How does the other side of the lid look?

It is not plated, that was right after scrubbing it. Thanks guys. It is a shame, #7 Dutch oven with trivet. Bottom and trivet are in great shape I bet someone stored it with the handle in the oven and water just destroyed it.
