Practically no effect at all.  I am not sure what they plate them with but as long as you use them on the cleaning side (cathode), they should be OK.  Put them on the + side (anode) and you may have trouble.

That's right James, they are on the right side of the cleaning process. The smaller pair I use isn't in those pics because they are too small for an egg, but they are clean as a whistle.  ;)
