Pot Scrubbers
« on: August 14, 2007, 03:46:03 PM »
I have been collecting these for a little while, and have found these mesh pot scrubbers to be just as useful on cast iron today, as they were back in the old days.  I guess these were the original brillo pads, except they last a whole lot longer.  I have found these to be very useful in getting cooked on food off of the cast iron cookware quite easily and without any bad effects on the seasoning if you don't scrub too hard.  Usually just some hot water and a little bit of scrubbing and most everything comes right off.  I have found these both in antique stores and on ebay......just key in "Pot Scrubber".  The ones with the cast iron handles are a little harder to find, and usually go for a little more than I want to pay.  I usually try to keep my price range under twenty dollars (then on ebay, there is shipping too).  They work great!!

The one with the cast iron handle has PATD on one side and 93 on the other side.  Overall length is 11-1/4"  width is 3-1/2"

Here are a couple of them that are in ebay stores........

I am not sure if this is really old....it almost looks new.....you decide.

I hope this helps in cleaning up your cast iron cookware after cooking.

Happy hunting,

Scott

PS......are you using your scrubbers Judy???.....nice, huh!!

These are really cool, Scott.  I've never seen them before - or rather, I never knew what they were - I probably have seen them but just thought they were samples of chain mail for Rennaisance Fair folks (my brother-in-law is one and he makes his own chain mail).

Thanks for sharing the pics!

Very cool!  Not only are they heavy duty industrial pot scrubbers, they look really neat, too.  I wouldn't mind getting one (or two...or....lol!)   ;)            Judy

Cool Box Clark......and nice pictures too.  The good thing about the mesh pot scrubbers is that you can use them over and over again without ruining them.  If they do get rusty....just pop them in the lye bath for a little while.  I think I have found all but two of mine on ebay....but I keep a look out in the antique stores (if they are reasonable).  The two I just added above, aren't too bad of a price.  I use the ones without the handles more so than the ones with the handles...they are eaiser to grab on to, but the handled ones look neat hanging up in the kitchen.

Happy Hunting,

Scott

Scott,  Those pot scrubbers are pretty unique lookin'!  As you know, I got the one you first posted, and here's another one I won.  I'll have to admit that I haven't used them yet, but they look great hanging on the wall with my cast iron skillets.  :)  Thanks for posting and the additional posts!  Just what I need....another addiction!  lol!          Judy

Judy, now I wish you'd quit braggin these up.  ;D You're gonna make me want "some" of them.

They are kind of neat lookin. They remind me of mail, like the armor that the knights of old wore for body protection. I think that is what that is called anyway.

Hi Judy......Yep, I'm familiar with the other auction you won.  I think I was about three bids too low.  Anyway, I was glad you won that one.....get you started looking for more things ...  ;D ;D

Is the scrubber with 93 on the handle worth $75.00 ? It is in  fair shape for all I know. I never knew what they were before. They are an attention getter. Always learning something on this site. Thanks Scott.

Preston......I wouldn't pay $75.00 for a PATD 93 pot scrubber.  Sometimes you can find them as a sleeper on ebay.  As I said before, I don't like to go too much over $20.00 or so, because there is usually shipping.  They do usually go for a little more than the ones without handles.

Just keep your eyes open and one will show up that you can grab.

Clark, I used to work as a guide in Africa. I worked on the elephant hunt. I hurt my back and got a workers comp claim and came back here to the States. I hurt my back moving the cast iron decoys. The worst part was dragging them fast enough to keep up with the moving herds. The elephant calf decoys weren't bad, its the bull elephant one that got me.

Good morning Clark, no, them decoy elephants could not swim, in fact they couldn't even float. I only lasted about 10 years on that job.  ;)

I think all good ES stories should be passed along from generation to generation. I can tell my children and grand children I know a famous man who used to run, place, gather or what ever you do with elephant decoys. May Perrys legacy be forever.

OH, I agree Preston, and as Clark Rader says, 'why ruin a good story with the truth"?
