CAUTION please read
« on: March 04, 2017, 06:13:24 PM »
I watched the ER channel and they showed someone who was dying. They run all kinds of tests, MRI, Blood, X-rays and this person was really sick. She was bleeding from the very back of her tongue. They operated to find out what was causing the problem and there it was a piece of small wire about an inch long. It was stuck in her tongue and would not come out. These pieces of wire can lodge anywhere in the digestive track and go undetected. They removed it and she lived.
Come to find out there is about 1,500 of these accidents that happen in the US every year. 1/2 die from this.
The wire comes from the wire brush that cleans your barbecue grill. I an chunking my brush and will find another way.

Please everyone think about this and find another way than a wire brush.

I hope this prevents at least one problem. Please pass this on to everyone, maybe we can save a life.

Preston

Hello Preston. Thank you for providing this warning. What an awful thing to happen. Talk about putting a damper on an otherwise nice cookout.  :o :o

No more brushes like that for me. Those little dremel brushes are bad about throwing out at you also. I learned that the hard way.  :'(

Interesting. In 1990 I lost the first 1/3 of my colon and over a foot of small intestine due to a punctured colon. Very sick due to leakage into the abdominal cavity. It was a sliver from a toothpick from a club sandwich. So, be careful with toothpicks also. My surgeon said I might have lived another 24 hours.

Thanks for the info Preston.  I have used a brush to clean my grill for years.  I have also used Brillo pads, which, conceivably, could cause the same problem.  But if no brush is available, I crumple up a sheet of aluminium foil and use that to clean the grill.  I guess I will be going that from now on. ;)

Hello CB. Damn what a story. To say the least I'm glad you had a good Doctor.

We all have had the pleasure of knowing you over the years. And to think we may have been cheated out of that by one measly toothpick.

I don't know about you folks, but life is too short as it is. SO, for me, no more wire brushes on my grill, and no more toothpicks either.  :) :) :)

CB:  I know a guy that swallowed a whole tooth pick and they operated. Soon he got sick and come to find out they missed part of the tooth pick so they operated again. He had a hard time for a few years. No tooth picks have hit his mouth since. Glad you are ok.

Wow.  I'm surprised a toothpick causes problems, too.  I thought the HCl in your stomach would soften or break down the cellulose enough that it wouldn't be an issue.

Edit: Or is it one of those little plastic toothpick swords that are used to hold sandwiches together?

Hello Preston. Its good to hear from you.  :)

NOW that we have the niceties out of the way. Preston, now we have a standing Rule here at WAGS. You can look it up in our Bylaws. Its under Article seven Paragraph 5 Section three. And that Rule is that you only get to tell one big lie per thread.

AND, at first blush here, it appears that you, my friend, have exceeded that limit. Now go sit in the corner, AND, no playing with any cast iron for a week. I'm sorry to be so mean, but you know how it is, I'm the enforcer on here. And a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do.  ;D

And Jim Glatthaar, our In House Legal Advisor, will back me on this. 8-)

That's right, many people wanted to be "the enforcer" but, in Perry's case, the cream rose right to the top ... fast. 8-)

For some reason, this problem does not seem to bother me. If we stop using brushes and toothpicks, what will next. Fish sometimes have bones that can get caught in your mouth, should we quit eating fish? People die in car accidents, should we quit driving? I could go on an on.
