Since some folks on here like kitchen cutlery.  There was an article on Dexter-Russell knives in the Old Sturbridge Village magazine.

Hello Paul. What a fantastic article. Thank you for posting it. Some here know that I worked many years in a meat market in addition to my regular job. So I know about knives. I have some Dexter knives in fact. They make good pieces, no only knives but other kitchen appliances as well. Its good to see a story like this, something we do ourselves right here in the good old US of A.  :)

You got good taste Duke. I have a set of Case Kitchen Knives. They don't make them anymore. I have a lot of other knives also, carving knives, boning knives, skinning knives, pretty much any kind of knife you would ever need, or not need for that matter. Sometimes I look at Ebay for knives. Its interesting that some idiots have a knife for sale and they say it was a buffalo skinning knife or some wild such story, and the piece looks like a sword or even a carcass splitting cleaver.

And I like German knives too. I have some beautiful and expensive pocket knives also. But when I carry a knife I carry a cheap one so if I lose it I won't miss it.  :-[ ;D

I think I remember when you bought that Case set. Sitting here looking at a half a dozen pocket knives and a Christmas gift certificate for $75 from my kids to Moore Maker Knives out of Matador Texas for a "Texas" pocket knife that they make :-/ ;D

Hello Duke. Yes I have made mention on the set of Case knives on here before. My youngest asked me about what would be good for a set of kitchen knives. I told him them ones with the block of wood that comes with them, keep the wood, and throw the knives away. I told him I would give him the set of Case if he didn't use them for screwdrives and prying frozen food apart. So we are still up in the air about that set of Case knives. I have not heard of the Texas knife maker you mention here. But I have seen other private knife makers and they are very PRICEY. Three hundred dollars for a knife is not unusual to see at all.

Down in Gatlinburg there is a huge store knife. I have been there a few times. I always stop on the way out. If I stopped goin in I would be broke before I got there.  ;D

Perry, I think Case is back making a set of stainless butcher knives again. Might check their site.

Hello Duke, and thanks for the heads up. I looked at their website. And I see a set of steak knives, four of them, for $203.00 plus tax  :o

I would buy a set of knives, you know, different ones like I have, but for four steak knives I think its a stretch.

Update: I am mistaken on the information above. I checked further and they do have a block set of different kitchen knives and they also sell individual butcher knives. Thanks again Duke.  :)

I've got a Case set that has 8 knives and the sharpener in a block.  I bought it at an estate sale a few years back and was going to use them.  Only one of the knives looks like it has ever been used.  They look so nice I don't want to mess them up.   :-/

Somebody should invent a knife storage block that every time you use it, it hones the knife.

I remember my Daddy sitting at the kitchen table and working kitchen knives for hours. Now that I am older, I think it was relaxing to him. I find the same enjoyment working knives with stone & steel [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

He knew how to get'er done Duke.  ;)

I remember my mom sharpening her knives on a cement step going into the house, crude, but it got the job done. When I worked at the butcher shop we all knew what knife belonged to who. So when you wanted a knife to use you picked out the one that you knew was sharp, and you knew who it belonged to cause they kept their knife like a razor. Those that kept their knives just so so. They didn't have to worry about anybody using their knife.
