Regarding Finex CI
« on: December 17, 2019, 10:02:02 PM »
OK, so really want to inquire to the group here what people's thoughts are about the Finex CI products?    I realize that maybe CI is like anything else that people collect, classic cars, etc.  I know that some people will be very 'True to the classic'
Maybe this means that on a vintage CI forum, people for some reason won't be interested in this current product.

That being said, I could go on and on about modern Lodge products, and how they do not appeal to me at all.   But... these Finex products to me are just BEAUTIFUL!    and yes, they are darn expensive, but whatever...heavy has can be, smooth as glass, every inch seems wonderful.
When I searched the forum, I mostly found just 2-3 posts where people kind of shrugged them off.
Any die hard Gris/Wag people out there secretly have a stash of Finex and care to comment?

I am not a die hard collector of anything, I use my cast iron and to be honest I might buy a piece of Finex if I saw it used at the right price but I am not going to plunk down the dollars when I can find lots of nice pieces of vintage iron and with a little cleaning have some very nice usable pieces at a very inexpensive cost.

Don't get me wrong, They do have an appeal to them and I really like the idea that they are made in the USA but they are just too pricey when you consider what else is available
Just my opinion

Thanks for the input, Valerie.
I am a person who has always just really enjoyed a good seek and find/search for stuff, so I get it on the ‘fun’ part of active collecting.
But at the same time, I’m going to pick up a piece of their stuff.

Christian, Go to YouTube and look at Kent Rollins videos on the modern American made cast iron. Kent and his wife Shannon looked at them ALL including Lodge, Finex, and the rest. Extreme non bias opinion. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Well, for all the different opinions people have about Lodge and Finex, don't forget that Lodge bought Finex a few months ago, and it is Lodge that will be making the castings Finex puts the finish on. If you want a shiny piece of art for cooking buy Finex. If you want a workhorse of a product that might look plain Jane but cooks anything beautifully, buy Lodge.
Personally, I don't like all the corners of the Finex products. Lodge's Chef series and Blacklock pieces work for me, and I think they look better too.
Honestly, except for the cheap celebrity imported stuff, all high quality cast iron cooks well all the same. It really does just come down to design and what you find appealing.

You have a choice. That is what is important.

There is a Finex 5qt dutch oven on shopgoodwill.com right now with the bid at 102.00 plus 22.00 shipping, so there must be a perceived value to this stuff.

I myself would be a little resistant to all those corners when it came to stirring and cleanup [smiley=scratchchin.gif] [smiley=sad.gif]

Yeah,  I've been all over that Cowboy Kent Rollins character for some time now.  I just love watching his videos.    I did go and find the one you were talking about.  I appreciated that video because he actually gave great unbiased reviews of 2-3 other modern brands which I was not aware of.  (the Butter pat one?) or something of that sort.
