WAGNER waffle iron question
« on: November 04, 2018, 06:55:03 AM »
From what I understand, waffle irons are a pain to clean/restore.   I am not up to par with value of this area of collecting and rarely even see a piece around my area.

With that said, I saw one yesterday that is similar to the one shown on page 252 of the BB.  It has similar dimensions but the markings are different.  I thought the handles were not original, but now looking at the one in the BB, I'm wondering if it was rarely used and could be a "real find".  :-/ Will go back today and see if it's still there and inspect it closely.  He's asking $80...   What's the opinions from the peanut gallery? ;D

It would all depend on 'which' style waffle iron on P. 252 we're talkin' about...  8-) As there are huge differences in values of the Round vs. the Square vs. the Twin....

Oops... :-[
I would be referring to the very first square one shown.

looks the same except wording is different;

WAGNER
MFG CO
SIDNEY O

is on one side and;

WAGNER
WAFFLE IRON
PATd JULY26
1892

is on the other.

I believe it may be older than the one pictured in BB due to differences in the number fonts... :-/

I'll try to get pictures.

Sounds like price is in the ballpark IF condition warrants....

And yes they can be a 'bear' to clean....  ;D

Other variables are high base vs. low base...

Wagner used various styles of wooden handles.... pics will help with that...

The 1892 (earliest) waffle irons are worth more to me....  whether square or round.  :)

I went back and looked at it closer... It does measure 6 3/4 " square as described in the BB.  Am pretty sure handles have been replaced...  Wonder if it is an  "original' due to the markings.  (Do you know of quick comparisons I can look at Cheryl?) ~ I Now have first Waffle Iron restoration ahead of me! ::)

Also found a #5 Piqua ware smiley skillet, a LODGE L5MS skillet with lid, and an unmarked bread stick pan...  :D

If you're wondering what I gave...  Let's just say it would make some of our 'Thrifty-er' members proud of me... ;)

Larry,

I don't have the Blue Book handy right now, so I am not sure what style of handle your square iron has.  But if you look at The Casting Call, V 14 N 2+3, you will see a description of the variations of wooden handle that Wagner used.

Hope this helps.

Jeff

I seem to be missing those copies of the casting call Jeff...  :( Handles were definitely not original and I will need to replace them.

  Am trying to get pictures on the forum, but don't know how, so am not able to... :-[

I've not been able to find any Wagner Waffle Irons with the same markings as this one... :-?

Thank you Sandy for the help!
Hopefully this will be sufficient to help ID this waffle Iron...   The paddles have been cleaned and wiped down with mineral oil.   The Base is soaking now...

Gorgeous for sure!!  And definitely older with those cool markings!

You did a good job posting the pics on the thread and an even better job cleaning that beauty.

Uh, I wouldn't plan on sending me any waffle irons to clean...  :-? Not my 'cup of tea' ::)  I only picked this one up as I had a feeling she was an older one and I never see waffle irons in the wild...  I'll get pictures of the set once the base is cleaned...  Also will need to find handles that will be acceptable replacements...

BTW, I do not plan on keeping it and will offer to WAGS members first... ;)
