Raised #8, gate mark, outside heat ring. Maker?
« on: October 23, 2018, 03:08:30 PM »
Stopped at my favorite place today (up in Dalton). Picked up a couple of things.

- I already have a North Georgia Energy Co. Skillet, but this one is a lot better chance than the one I have.

- A very interesting (at least to me anyway) raised #8, outside heat ring, gate mark. The interesting thing to me, it has a raised 8 on the handle ... and also has an incised 8 on the bottom. Also, the 8 on the bottom, looks to be upside down and it has a circle above it (or below it if the 8 really is upside down.)

Has anybody seen one like this before?

The #8 looks like a recast, (reproduction made by using another skillet as the pattern)....

So the next question is, what is the topside diameter of that #8 Spurgeon?

I was thinking “recast”, too. The measurement looks to be 10 1/8. Maybe?

Oh well, win some, lose some. Took it out of the lye today and discovered a crack. Probably should have seen that thing when I bought it. Rats. Definitely a recast, but unusual. Why put an 8 on the bottom when you know there is a raised one on the handle? Ha!
