#8 Skillet with Ghost Vollrath Marking
« on: August 28, 2016, 09:56:05 PM »
Some time ago there was a post about Vollrath skillets (with sideways numbers) and Vollrath look-alikes (with vertical numbers). There is some debate as to whether the latter were made by Vollrath or not.

I was recently visiting a friend in Delaware who showed me a skillet that was his grandmother's. I told him I thought it was a Vollrath based on the handle design. Then he turned it over and found a 'Vollrath Ware' ghost marking on the bottom. I had him take some pictures for me so I could stoke the fire of the debate. What do you think?

More pictures. The last one is a close up of the Vollrath Ware marking. It's faint and above the '8-', but it's readily visible and complete.

Everything about that skillet looks Vollrath to me.
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

Page 243 in the Red book has an example like this one. The dash is on the other side of the 8, but the ghost mark is there. It's Vollrath.
