Calling this a Lodge Dutch Oven--Opinions?
« on: December 20, 2015, 12:29:26 PM »
No 8. The numbers on the lid are 3/4" high and it's marked "10 1/4 8 G". The bottom just has an 8 on the bottom, and turned out bail attachment. Inside is very smooth, so I'm thinking 50's. Odd though that the bottom measures 10 3/8" diameter--bigger than the top--but I found them together and they seem to work. I've seen a couple like this on Ebay, so I think both are Lodge, just don't know if they really below together.

Looks Lodge to me. Nice.

I just don't get it...  ANOTHER DO...  I have many and yet I sit and drool over yours...   I purchase them when at a good price.  I love using them...  They all look about the same...  and yet I love to see pictures and find more!  I just don't understand... ;D

Nice DO Frank!  [smiley=drool1.gif] What's for dinner?... [smiley=TFRFA1045.gif]

I myself just finished cleaning a very similar #8 DO which I also believe to be a Lodge due to the raised drip bumps and stamping on the bottom side of the lid.  However, mine has some notable differences as well which makes me think mine may be older than Franks and I would really appreciate help dating this piece.  The differences include, (1) the handle on the top of the lid, (2) the arrangement of the marks stamped on the bottom of the lid - (there are more markings and some of them are turned 90º from those in Frank's pictures), (3) the groves on the top side of the ears at the bail attachment points - (the top side of the bail attachment ears in Frank's pictures don't have these groves), and (4) the additional numbers 1 and 2 stacked vertically above the 8 on the bottom of the DO.  I'm very interested in finding out what the significance of the stacked 1 and 2 above the 8 is.  Can anybody help me out with dating this?  Does anybody know when Lodge changed the style of the lid handles?  Please see attached pictures. :-/  :-/

Some more pictures.
Mine also has a smooth interior (walls and bottom).  You can still see the milling marks.  Unfortunately, mine has a small area of pitting at the center of the cooking surface. :-/ :-/.
