Started my collection, items listed
« on: March 30, 2015, 10:21:25 AM »
I just started my Griswold and Wagner collection yesterday. I found a sweet elderly lady that just couldn't handle the weight anymore and was selling all her cast iron. She gave me a price and there was no reason to haggle. I walked away with more than a box full for $250. Here's what I picked up:

My cast iron purchase

WW              Skillet      10      No Sidney -O-
Griswold      Popover      10      948A
Griswold      Popover      18      6141
Griswold      Brd Stick      21      961
Griswold      Brd Stick            954A
Griswold      French Roll              11      950A
Griswold      Toy  Corn Stick      262      625 I or L?
Griswold      Aebleskiver Pan      32      962
Unmarked      Casserole            Gate mark
WKM              Dutch Oven/lid      4.5 qt      U
              Lid             6
              Alum Griddle with bail handle
              Alum Griddle with handle
              Alum skillet , missing lid

I think I'm off to a good start. So, for the experts...did I get my money's worth? I looked at some closed auctions on Ebay and I feel pretty comfortable.

Thanks,
Micah

Hello Micah. You did EXTREMELY well. I probably give two thousand dollars for that much iron when I first started out. I learned pretty quick that I either had to get smarter or win the lottery. I didn't win the lottery.  :'(

I'm pretty excited about it. The nice part is that very little of it needs refinishing. I'll probably reseason most pieces, just to get a better look at the markings, but I used the aebleskiver pan and the Griswold 6 last night.

That averages a bit over $10 each, so I would say, yes, you did quite well
