Unmarked NES Gem Pan Looks like a Griswold NES 11
« on: February 15, 2015, 04:08:56 PM »
Picked up a nice New England Style Gem pan, Makes 12 Gems/Muffins, Looks almost identical to a Griswold NES 11 but it has absolutely no markings at all, Measures 12 1/16" long(not including tab handles) x 7 3/16" wide, The casting is very nice, Thin smooth walls and looks like a very nice quality piece, I have added a few pics maybe someone can identify it by the handles or the design.

Hopefully someone can tell you what it is. There's one at a local antique mall for $60, not sure if it's worth buying.

I think there were quite a few makers of unmarked gem pans, and this is a style that I see in almost every shop I go into. Often they have a stack or two like this, for $10-15 each. The casting quality varies wildly. I am in the northeast here, and people must have really liked these things, kinda like the corn cob pans are more popular in the south.

I do have one marked Barstow stove, RI and two made by Wood Bishop, in Maine. I don't bother with the unmarked ones, but if you want one to use, an unmarked one should work just fine, just try to find a bargain. If you are buying to resell, I would pass on these.

The one you have looks like a nice pan, Valerie, and in use would be the equal of a Griswold.

I'm in the northeast, too.  As mentioned, there are lots up here.  Inexpensive in this area.  Bought one for $5 at a town day.  Bought 3 for $25 at Brimfield Antiques Show, including a Barstow Stove Co. pan that's a bit larger than most.

Robert, Chris, Paul...Thank you...I am in NJ and while this style is not rare it is not all that common in my area either...not sure what I will do with it, I did not pay a lot for it but I am not sure I really have a need for it either.
