Griswold 570 Ashtray Black Porcelain finish Fake or original
« on: October 20, 2014, 12:13:28 PM »
I just picked up a cute little Griswold 570 Ashtray with black porcelain finish, I did some research and see that for the most part if it has a matchbook holder then it is original and if not then it is a reproduction, Anyone have any info on Porcelain finish on these.

I guess what I am asking is this real or fake, I see some have been recast in brass with the match holder is it possible some have been made in cast iron, The porcelain or is it enamel coating makes reading the Griswold mark very difficult.

Any opinions?

I looks real to me... :) Just don't know if made by Griswold or Wagner.  What are the markings on bottom?  is there an ERIE PA?

When you hold it at the right angle you can see the Griswold cross and just make out Griswold across the center bar of the cross, The porcelain(enamel?) is very thick but it definitely has the Griswold mark on the bottom and you can just make out the Erie Pa

I would say it IS Griswold made... in the 1950's.

The general rule of thumb with the porcelain ashtrays...
The Wagner made ones do not have a match holder, some DO have the Griswold logo, no Erie,PA.

Other Wagner made have an oval WagnerWare logo.
